Crafted for Lexus: R&D.M.Co lamb’s wool blankets
Husband and wife team Yuji and Toku Shimura run the R&D.M.Co (a welcome contraction of Research and Development Manufacture Company) brand from their independent Japanese tailoring establishment located at the foot of Mount Fuji. The brand was borne out of the couple’s shared passion for traditionally woven linen and is highly regarded for its skilful combination of high design and practicality.
“We want to make things that are cherished for a long time to come,” they explain. “And we make our products in Japan, to remind the world of the quality and craftsmanship of Japanese goods.”
These qualities are exemplified in the soft wool blanket range now available in the Crafted for Lexus collection. Comfortingly rustic in appearance and feel, the lamb’s wool thread is woven locally using traditional techniques and classic looms – machines that have slower yarn movements and therefore create less tension within the softly woven fabric than modern, high-speed looms.
