Crafted for Lexus: Bsize LED desk light
This award-winning, minimalist desk light was the first creation of Japanese designer Keita Yagi, and was the product that helped notorise his Bsize consumer electronics company.
In designing the light, Yagi wanted to develop something understated in appearance, that didn’t interfere with the user’s field of vision and offered a glow that mimicked sunlight. And it appears he was successful in his venture, with the new desk light winning both a Good Design Award and a Red Dot Design Award.
It is fabricated from a single length of pipework bent in four places and covered in a UV-resistant matt white enamel coating. Inserted into the head is a row of specially developed LED bulbs that produce more than 90% of the spectrum of natural sunlight. The light is turned on and off by pressing a subtle button built into the end of the head.
