Crafted for Lexus: Ito Bindery drawing pads and memo blocks
For more than 80 years and three generations, the Ito family has run a paperware business from the Sumida neighbourhood of Tokyo, Japan. Ito Bindery was initially known for notebook binding and the production of catalogues and leaflets. The company’s smooth cuts and perfect edges were renowned within the industry, and these hallmarks inspired third-generation owner Masaki Ito to develop a range of high-quality consumer paper products.
Masaki’s idea was to gather offcuts that would otherwise be wasted during catalogue production and repurpose them into small drawing pads and memo blocks – all crafted using traditional methods and as perfectly cut as customers had come to expect.
It seemed such a simple idea, yet Ito’s elegant execution led to the products winning a Good Design Award and being endorsed by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, USA. Today, these drawing pads and memo blocks are Ito Bindery’s best-selling items, and the versions available within the Crafted for Lexus range are exclusive in being produced with a premium black base and higher quality paper.
