What will happen to the first production Lexus LC Convertible?

Full production of the new Lexus LC 500 Convertible will soon commence in preparation for the model going on sale across the world this summer. But what will happen to the first example that rolls off the production line?

The answer to this question was decided last week at the annual Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona, USA, where Lexus sold that historic model (vehicle identification number 100001) for $2 million and shared the entire figure between the Boys & Girls Clubs of America charity and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

Representing the car in question was the pre-production LC 500 Convertible displayed at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. However, the inaugural production model will also be presented in breathtaking Structural Blue paintwork with elegant semi-aniline white leather interior. Further features will include unique blue brake calipers, exclusive 21-inch forged alloy wheels and custom carbon fibre sill plates bearing the legend, LC Inspiration Series Launch Exclusive 1 of 1.

To sweeten this already unmissable opportunity, the person behind the winning bid will soon receive a bounty of additional collectables and experiences. This includes the first made-to-measure luggage set for the LC Convertible from travel brand Zero Halliburton, a one-on-one performance driving experience with Lexus brand ambassador Scott Pruett, a three-night stay at the Pebble Beach Resort, and a one-off illustrated build diary from the Motomachi plant signed by the vehicle’s chief engineers.

Although the destiny of the Lexus LC 500 Convertible #100001 is now decided, a pre-order process has been arranged for successive models scheduled for UK delivery in September. Lodge your interest by following the instructions on the Lexus UK website.

  1. Looks great. My wife would like a Hybrid Crossover but thinks my RX is too large for her. The NX300 could be just the thing. Great, futuristic looking and SUV.

  2. Hugely impressive looking car without a doubt. Certainly the 300h will make it to the UK with likely one of the petrol variations. Certainly takes some elements from the IS which is no bad thing and the cockpit looks like a lovely place to be. I will be interested to see the economy and performance specifications as well as the UK equipment specifications as it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the obvious competition of the Q3/5, X3, GLA and Evoke.

Most importantly the pricing will be crucial – especially leasing prices for company car users which is where the German 3 seem to have an advantage over Lexus where despite the P11D cost being higher, the lower monthly rentals seem to balance things out.

Can’t wait to see one though – when can we expect to see them in the showroom?

    1. Hi Ian,
      Thanks for the post.
Glad to hear you like what you’ve seen of the NX so far and we really do appreciate your feedback. You’re quite right, pricing will most certainly be one of the many crucial aspects to the vehicle’s success.
Launch of the NX is expected later this year, although stay tuned to our blog for the latest official news.
      Hope this helps.

  3. What, no diesel ? And can you PLEASE fix your website to stop it jerking up and down. I must have read this 4 times !

    1. Hi Ivan,
      Thanks for your post.
That’s correct, the NX will only be available with the following powertrains: a hybrid in the NX 300h; a 2.0-litre petrol turbo unit in the NX 200t; and a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine in the NX 200. UK specification is yet to be confirmed, stay tuned to our blog for the latest news.
Sorry you have had trouble viewing our site, we appreciate your feedback and will be sure to pass on your comments.
      Hope this helps.

  4. Looks a very attractive proposition – but the 300h needs to achieve sub 100g CO2. Need these details to really get the big picture. Lets see the full tech specs ASAP.

    1. Hi Dean,
      Thanks for your post.
The NX will be available from our vast UK network of Lexus Centre’s with launch expected later this year.
Keep an eye on our blog for the latest on launch date, model range and final specifications.
      Hope this helps.

  5. If you are going to have images that automatically change then at least have then all the same size so the page doesn’t keep jumping up and down. Very frustrating to try and read the information.

The interior looks nice, hopefully it uses better quality materials than in the IS.

  6. It’s evident from the standard replies that you are really unable to divulge any real information until Mat 13th. However I will ask one key request of Lexus for the upcoming NX

Why, so far, has there never a (sporty) light coloured leather option in any of the current F sport models? It is assumed by marketing that is has to be Black, or Dark Rose Red in the IS, (which is nice), or Saddle Tan in the RX, (which is horrible). The published NX pictures are showing a seat colour combination of red with black, (which is really nice). I hope this is an opportunity to put a contrasting sporty greyish silver with black for the seats in the NX F Sport.

    1. Hi Bob,
      Thanks for your post.
You’re quite right, there is limited information we can reveal as of yet, although we will be sure to announce the latest news as soon as we can.
We do appreciate your feedback and will be sure to pass it on to the NX product team.
To answer your question, in the past we have offered lighter coloured interiors for sports models such as the LFA. Although in general lighter interiors are not so popular and for this reason they are not available in the current F Sport range, this includes the NX.
      Hope this helps.

  7. Looks great – can’t wait to see it – hope there is an option for full panoramic roof (90% of Range Rover Evoques opt for this) and hope there are lighter interiors available – my choice would be dark blue exterior with cream or grey interior.

  8. Looks brilliant. Already been down to my Lexus dealer and booked in for test drive of the NX300h as soon as they get one in. Wife even likes it, thinks my RX too big, so she is happy with her CT200h (for now).
Only one BUT (been on about this on other NX blogs), Lexus did in the end listen to the screaming crowd about the CT200h – and gave it a “Space saver spare wheel”, 4 in the morning heading for the airport is not fun with a blow out and a tin of form – do it immediately guys with the NX or it off my shopping list!!
