An interactive media art exhibition held between February 11 and 20 at Lexus International’s Intersect design facility in Tokyo, provided a unique opportunity to see the ultra-rare V10 Lexus LFA Roadster under thousands of colour-changing light emitting diodes (LEDs).
Entitled ‘1,220’, the exhibition showcased creative work from up-and-coming Japanese musicians, filmmakers and performers and was hosted in partnership with Rhizomatiks, a Japanese creative agency.
The title of 1,220 is derived from the 1,220mm height of the LFA. The Roadster version – of which just were three produced – took pride of place during the exhibition, appearing atop a platform placed inside a video and sound installation. Visitors laid underneath the installation as a series of computer-generated locations passed by in a preset sequence. Wireless headphones provided a musical accompaniment.
Intersect Tokyo opened its doors on August 30 2013 to support Lexus’ global Amazing in Motion brand identity and is an innovative cross between a car dealership, a retail space and an exhibition centre. There are plans to launch centres in Dubai and New York next.
