Lexus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade

Lexus is pleased to announce that owners of compatible UX, NX and ES models now have the possibility of an upgrade to their vehicle’s multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration*.

Compatible vehicles for the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade:

  • Lexus UX models produced from January 2019 to September 2019
  • Lexus NX models produced from September 2018 to September 2019
  • Lexus ES models produced from October 2018 to September 2019
Lexus Apple CarPlay

This Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Lexus centre. Lexus recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

*Lexus has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment across all vehicles since the 2020 model year. Depending on vehicle and specification, this means that most Lexus models with this system will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

  2. Hello
    I have had my lexus NX 2019 upgraded at the Lexus Service center in Crawley this week to wotk with Apple carplay.
    Can you confirm if the system should be able to operate over wirless bluetooth as the only way I can get Carplay to work is with a wired connection to the USB port?
    Also I do not seem to have any curser when in carplay only moving between icons with the touch pad is this correct.
    Thanks for you help in advnace or if you have any instrcutions I might have missed then please feel free to advise or send.

  7. I took my 2019 (69) Lexus UX in for service today and agreed to pay an additional fee to get the Apple CarPlay enabled on the car. The dealer said that the Apple CarPlay update cannot be carried out at the time of service. This is due to a maps update that needs to be done first and this will cost £180 in addition to the extra charge that i’ve agreed to pay for the Apple CarPlay and will take approx 4 to 6 hours to complete. Why do I have to pay for this maps update in order to get Apple CarPlay activated? It clearly states on your release that my car and model year are compatible and i’m now having to pay in total near £300 to get Apple CarPlay enabled. Surely this can’t be right?

      There is a certain level of navigation software required in order for the Apple CarPlay retrofit to be applied. Most vehicles having the retrofit around this time will require the additional update if frequent ones have not been undertaken.

          Apple CarPlay/Android Auto retrofit can only be completed by a Lexus Centre.

      Your NX should be equipped with Apple CarPlay as standard. Your local Lexus Centre will be able to double check this for you, it will require a wired connection.
