The luxurious interior quality of the new Lexus GS has been recognised with a top 10 placing in this year’s influential Ward’s 10 Best Interiors competition.
After evaluating numerous luxury interiors this year, the global car industry analysts at Wards Auto said the GS 450h is “the most visually stunning, from the satin metallic accents to the exotic bamboo trim, which brightens the cabin like a perfect sunset.
“The rich, black leather, restrained backlighting and the level of craftsmanship throughout the cabin leave no doubt that Lexus is raising the bar for luxury interiors. The brand was shooting for a sporty, elegant ambiance, and the editors agree it succeeded.”

A total of 46 vehicles from every sector were carefully evaluated for the 2013 competition. Close attention is paid to the fit and finish of each interior, including examination of stitching seams and the way different materials meet at important visual/touch points such as armrests and instrument panels.
Material quality is another important consideration. While natural elements like real wood and metallic trim are always preferred over imitations, the judges recognise that it is not possible to construct an interior solely from natural materials, so they reward the use of high-quality plastics, matt finishes, and attractive textures.

But the Ward’s study isn’t just about appearance – every car is really put through its paces. Functionality and practicality is evaluated from every seat, seating permutations are checked, switchgear is played with, voice-activation systems are synced, and the overall ergonomics are determined. Driver visibility, overall aesthetics and design harmony are also taken into consideration.
“Ultimately,” Wards Auto reports, “[we] are looking for interiors that raise the bar in design, comfort and functionality… that offer the best value for money yet stand above its competitive set.”
