Lexus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade

Lexus is pleased to announce that owners of compatible UX, NX and ES models now have the possibility of an upgrade to their vehicle’s multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration*.

Compatible vehicles for the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade:

  • Lexus UX models produced from January 2019 to September 2019
  • Lexus NX models produced from September 2018 to September 2019
  • Lexus ES models produced from October 2018 to September 2019
Lexus Apple CarPlay

This Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Lexus centre. Lexus recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

*Lexus has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment across all vehicles since the 2020 model year. Depending on vehicle and specification, this means that most Lexus models with this system will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

    I think what Naresh is asking is, are Lexus going to be bringing out a retrofit for android auto/apple car play, for other cars like the is300h. I would also be interested to know this, as it is a hassle and expensive being tied into the Lexus sat nav, when there are other, better ways of getting nav. I also don’t like having a phone attached to my screen. Thanks,

      There will be no retrofit option available for older models such as this as the multimedia system is incompatible with the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto software.

  3. I bought a Lexus 2021 Rx450hL last September and was told it has apple carplay. However my phone cannot find the CarPlay? Is it possible
    for CarPlay to be installed and how much is this likely to cost?

            Prerequisite to the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto software upgrade, is there a need to update the whole infotainment/media/navigation system software to be updated as well?
            Or it is just the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto software installation upgrade to the existing media system.

  8. Could I check if a Lexus NX registered in Sep 2018 would be eligible me for the upgrade?
    Reg: WO*****. (It has the upgraded Nav package with the wider screen).

  10. I have a 2019 Lexus UX 250h. I asked my local dealership to look at installing the Android Auto upgrade whilst they had the car in for its annual service. They insisted that a satnav upgrade would be required as a prequisite. The total cost quoted was somewhat excessive so I decided not to go ahead.
    I am somehwhat dissappointed that this is such an expensive upgrade, particularly when the AppleCarPlay and AndoidAuto functions are listed in the user guide supplied with the car, with no mention of it being a chargeable extra. Insult to injury is added by insisting on the satnav upgrade, when the main reason for wanting the AndroidAuto functionality is because of the inadequacy of the OEM satnav (tiny fonts, for example). I understand that the AA upgrade has been provided free of charge in other countries. I would happily pay for just the AA upgrade, perhaps an older version compatible with the existing satnave system. Are other dealersjhips likely to have a different (more affordable) policy on this?

      The Android Auto/Apple CarPlay software retrofit requires navigation version 2018 V1 or later so in a lot of cases a navigation update will be needed in order to carry out the installation. When the addition of this software was made, a price increase was also added to reflect the additional feature. It is an optional upgrade that carries a cost, but we will of course pass your feedback along to our team.

      1. How can I tell what version I have? According to the menu item I have Navigation v1512, Audio 1010, navdb 943. The number convention seems different to your 2018v1?
