2019 Lexus RX: revised grades and specifications

The existing range of Lexus premium SUV models has been primed for 2019 with new equipment grades and revised specifications. This post concentrates on changes applied to the full-size RX self-charging hybrid, while a subsequent post will detail changes applied to the mid-size NX model.

2019 Lexus RX: overview

For the 2019 model year, the RX adopts our new, more focused grade structure: RX, F Sport and Takumi. Base and mid-grade models are supported by generous option packs that allow additional options to be easily added.

With the rationalisation of the range for 2019, Lexus has taken the opportunity to enhance equipment specifications and options at each level, reinforcing the RX’s position as our flagship SUV. Just one example of this is the inclusion of Lexus Safety System+ across the entire range.

The RX retains the same smooth, refined and highly efficient self-charging Lexus Hybrid Drive powertrain, featuring a 3.5-litre direct injection V6 petrol engine and two compact yet powerful electric motors – one for the front axle and a second on the rear axle to equip the SUV with E-Four all-wheel drive capability.

Full system output is 308bhp, giving the RX 0-62mph acceleration in 7.7 seconds. Combined cycle fuel economy (WLTP data) is from 35.15 to 37.39mpg, with CO2 emissions from 132g/km (NEDC correlated figure).

The seven-seat RX L also adopts the new grade names, with SE, Luxury and Premier now replaced by RX L and Takumi.

Another cause for celebration…

The Lexus RX heads into the New Year with another honour to its name – judged Best Large Hybrid Car in the inaugural DrivingElectric Awards.

Vicky Parrot, associate editor of the new DrivingElectric consumer news and reviews website, commented: “The RX is an attractive option with eye-catching looks, luxury and refinement, and will appeal to buyers who want a car that’s more eco-friendly than a diesel SUV.”
