Every new Lexus in the UK is eligible to be covered up to ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Lexus warranty. This is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Terms and conditions apply and can be read here.
Information correct on date of publication at top of article.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and an owner can have the car serviced wherever they choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who keep to the recommended service schedule and choose to have their Lexus serviced at an official Lexus centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until the car is ten years old or reaches 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
The combination of manufacturer warranty and additional service-activated warranty means Lexus owners can access a Lexus warranty of up to ten years (or 100,000 miles), giving them a chance to relax in the knowledge that they and their vehicle are in safe hands. The warranty applies to every type of powertrain.
Here we answer key questions about the Lexus warranty programme.
How do I get the Lexus warranty?
All new Lexus vehicles are sold with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty as standard. Following that initial period, Lexus provides a 12-month (or 10,000-mile) warranty with every qualifying service at an official Lexus centre, for up to an additional seven years.
There are no complex formalities. It is automatically activated on the completion of a scheduled full or interim vehicle qualifying service at an official Lexus centre. By keeping to their vehicle’s service schedule, customers can benefit from an extra 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, year after year, until the ten year or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
How does the Lexus warranty work?
The warranty operates in the same way as the warranties provided on new and approved used Lexus vehicles. Cover is automatic when the vehicle undergoes a scheduled full or interim qualifying service and effective from that date for 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is soonest. On vehicles that have service intervals every two years, the cover is for 24 months or 20,000 miles.
There are no forms to sign to obtain the warranty cover and the customer does not have to keep or present any policy documents should they need to make a claim. The warranty status of their vehicle is recorded in the details of their vehicle held by the Lexus network and is noted on the service invoice raised by the centre. This central record means that a vehicle’s warranty will be recognised at any official Lexus centre, should customers move or choose to have their car serviced at a different approved location.
Following the completion of a warranty-qualifying service, customers will be sent a confirmation email by their centre (subject to them providing an email address for contact).
If a vehicle requires work to be done under warranty, the customer contacts their local Lexus centre in the first instance. They will be able to confirm the warranty status on receiving details of the vehicle.
Which cars are eligible for the new Lexus warranty?
It’s a comprehensive programme that applies to all Lexus passenger cars. There are no exclusions where powertrains are concerned, with the same level of cover provided for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles, as well as for models with petrol and diesel internal combustion engines.
Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Lexus service history.
What’s covered and what’s not covered by the Lexus warranty?
This new warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Lexus vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles under ten years old.
It does not include wear and tear items, bodywork, paint, interior trims and maintenance parts. A vehicle health check is part of the service package, which includes all mechanical and electronic parts. This helps potential problems to be detected at an early stage. Any existing defects present at the time of service are excluded from the warranty.
Full terms and conditions can be downloaded from Lexus.co.uk.
Although the warranty cover is uniform, different types of vehicle owner will have a different customer experience.
New Lexus vehicles
Customers with new Lexus vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty in place.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have a qualifying service at an official Lexus centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until the car is either ten years old or reaches 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For vehicles with a two-year service schedule, a 24-month/20,000-mile warranty will automatically be activated. The warranty will then be renewed at each successive qualifying service at an official Lexus centre, until the ten years or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
Approved used Lexus vehicles
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Lexus network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Lexus serviced at an official Lexus centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until the car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Used Lexus vehicles
Customers with used Lexus vehicles purchased outside the Lexus network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a three-year or 60,000-mile manufacturer warranty (whichever comes first). When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualify for the Lexus warranty when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Lexus centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
“Lapsed” and new customers
Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Lexus network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Lexus centre.
Lexus customers with service plans
Customers who have a service plan for their vehicle face no additional costs or changes to the terms of their plan. The warranty will be an additional, added-value benefit when they next undergo a qualifying service.
Lexus warranty and hybrid vehicles
For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid battery and components for up to ten years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.
What happens if I take my car to a different Lexus centre for service? How do I prove there is an active Lexus warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Lexus centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Lexus dealer.
If I bought a used Lexus, how can I find out if there is an active warranty on it?
Centres will be able to confirm this and can advise on the details and terms of the cover.
How is the warranty activated?
If the vehicle is eligible, warranty activation is processed automatically by Lexus. The customer doesn’t have to do anything.
What does the Lexus warranty cover?
The warranty provides the same cover as the manufacturer’s warranty. Likewise, it does not cover wear and tear items. Full terms and conditions are provided at Lexus.co.uk. Local centres will also provide information.
What is the process for making a claim?
If a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made.
I have purchased a vehicle with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When does it become eligible for the service-activated warranty?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Lexus centre.
I recently purchased a used car from a Lexus centre. When will it be eligible for the Lexus warranty?
Used cars under ten years old that are purchased through the centre network are covered by a 12 months/unlimited mileage warranty. The warranty benefits can be enjoyed when the car is brought in for its next scheduled service.
What happens if I take my car to a different centre for service? How do I prove there is an active warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Lexus centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Lexus dealer.
I already have an extended warranty. Can I swap on to this warranty?
Yes, you can cancel a Lexus extended warranty policy and receive a pro-rata refund, provided you haven’t made a claim. Once that is cancelled, you’ll then need to have a qualifying service to activate the new warranty. It may be better to wait until your next service is due! If you purchased an extended warranty through a Lexus centre, the terms and conditions for cancellation may be different.
Can I purchase this warranty cover?
No, the warranty is automatically activated following the completion of a full or interim service.
Is a Hybrid Health Check still available to extend my Lexus vehicle’s hybrid battery cover?
The Hybrid Health Check is included as part of the service on vehicles less than ten years old or having less than 100,000 miles on the clock. When a Lexus warranty contract is activated, it will include the hybrid battery cover. When the vehicle is no longer eligible for the ten year/100,000 mile warranty, extended warranty cover on the hybrid battery and components can be accessed through a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check, up to the vehicle reaching 15 years from the date of first registration.
If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Lexus warranty contract be activated and will it expire the next day?
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle undergoes a qualifying service. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
My vehicle’s service schedule is every two years. How does this affect the warranty?
Where scheduled maintenance is every two years, a warranty contract will automatically be activated and cover the vehicle for two years/20,000 miles until the next qualifying service is due.
Will I receive confirmation that my vehicle is covered by the Lexus warranty?
Centres will advise customers if their vehicle is eligible. When a qualifying service has been completed and the warranty contract has been active, customers will receive a follow-up email. Further questions arising can be answered by the centre which looks after your vehicle.
Does the introduction of Lexus warranty affect the service plan I’ve purchased for my vehicle?
Customers with a service plan now get more for their money when their vehicle is eligible for a warranty, receiving an extra year’s warranty for their vehicle when it undergoes a qualifying service, up to ten years or 100,000 miles.
Can I transfer the warranty to a new owner if I sell my vehicle?
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Lexus centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Will the warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
The warranty cover on my approved used Lexus includes one year’s AA Roadside Assistance cover. Is this available with Lexus warranty?
Roadside cover is not included but can be purchased separately if required. The warranty is exceptional value, being provided at no extra cost to the customer beyond the menu pricing of their vehicle’s service.
Are there other benefits to using Lexus centres?
In addition to the warranty, servicing at a Lexus centre provides other significant benefits to customers. Work is carried out by qualified Lexus technicians, using Lexus-approved parts to ensure optimum performance.
Workshop teams are fully equipped and trained work on all the technologies featured in Lexus vehicles, including electrified powertrains and advanced handling and safety systems. Pricing is transparent with a service menu price guarantee for the scheduled servicing requirements for each model.
Lexus customer-focused approach includes an online service booking facility at the customer’s preferred centre. Centres will also make servicing as convenient as possible, with collection and delivery, courtesy cars and while-you-wait servicing options.

Dear Lexus
My GS250 will be due for a service at 9 years and 11 months from new with a mileage of about 97000 miles. I understand that the warranty will be extended by a year from the date of the service, but will the cover lapse at 100,000 miles or 107,000 miles i.e. 10,000 miles after the service?
Many thanks
Hello Nick, thanks for your question.
Our Warranty Team have advised that providing the contract is applied before expiry, 10 years / 100k miles, you will have 10k or 12 months, contract activated.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hi
My Lexus NX300h now 7 yrs old has always been serviced by Lexus, the last service being done in December 2022. Can you please advise if the Lexus manufacturers warranty will still be valid if I sell my car privately.
Thanks
Hello John, thanks for your comment.
Our Warranty Team have advised that warranty is transferred when it is sold. This transfer is taken from the original in service date, so only the remainder of the warranty period will be carried over.
Thanks.
If I buy a used Lexus still under its initial warranty, do the previous services have to be made by a Lexus dealer, and use genuine parts, in order to qualify? Or does the car still qualify regardless of where services were done, and what parts were used, provided they were on schedule?
Thank You
Hello Neil, thanks for your question.
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Lexus network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Lexus serviced at an official Lexus centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Thanks.
Could you please confirm if the Lexus 12 month approved used warranty is protected as long as the vehicle is serviced to the Lexus schedule and uses Lexus parts as per block exemption regulations?
Hello Daniel, thanks for your comment.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and you can have your car serviced wherever you choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, if you choose to have your Lexus serviced at an official Lexus centre, you will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).

Hi
I’m looking to buy an 18 month old Lexus from a non Lexus (but reputable) car dealer. They have advised they will service the car in their garage with genuine Lexus parts but will this validate the 3 year manufacturers warranty or stop me from getting the extended warranty? Just asking before I buy the car.
thanks
Hello, thanks for your interest in Lexus.
As this vehicle won’t have been purchased from the Lexus Approved Used network, it will not be eligible for Lexus warranty.
Thanks.
After my Lexus reaches 10 years old, can I buy an extended warranty?

Hello,
I bought my 2014 IS200 in January from a Lexus dealer. It is covered by the Lexus warranty.. Today, the car wouldn’t open or start. I called Lexus roadside assistance. The AA attended and a new battery was required. Can the cost of this be claimed against the warranty?
Ian

Hi, I am due my 4 year service (69 plate) and have so far had 3 services, a minor, major, minor via my service plan
For my next service plan, the cost is significantly more as it is a major, minor, major.
My question is, if I opt to have a minor (year 4), major (5), minor service (6) plan, does this affect my service warrenty?
Thanks, Dan

Hi, I have a Lexus ES300 Fsport Takumi. It is a 69 plate and has been serviced at Lexus every year.
Recently the front left hand light has started flashing constantly.
My local center have said this isn’t covered under warranty yet this goes against the warranty guidelines on your website?
Please advise.
Thanks Steve
