Lexus has been nurturing the development of rugby stars of the future – by hosting the 2013/14 Lexus Rugby Tournament. The regional rounds of the competition drew to a close this weekend in Sidcup, Kent, following two exciting months of on-pitch action.
Since kicking off at Old Brodleians rugby club in West Yorkshire on October 13, the tournament has provided over 2,000 players in age groups ranging from under 7s to under 10s the opportunity to hone their skills in competition with clubs from their region.
Lexus supported each club by providing rugby shirts in each club’s colours, along with kit for the all important training sessions.
The Lexus Rugby Tournament is backed by Rugby World Cup player and ex-England rugby international Richard Hill. Speaking about the tournament, Hill said “I am delighted to be supporting the tournament and Lexus in their support of grassroots rugby. Having played in tournaments at a similar age, I know how much I enjoyed the chance to compete against other teams and to gauge ourselves as individuals and a team. It also allows you to play against teams that would not form part of your normal fixture list, especially for those lucky enough to make the final.”
The winning team from each age group at the regional tournaments have now qualified for the national final, which will take place next year at the Sixways Stadium, home of the Worcester Warriors. In total, 24 teams will compete in the final – the full results list is available here.
