The earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck Japan on 11 March have had a huge impact on the people of Japan, with great loss of life and the destruction of communities.
They have also had an impact on the operations and employees of Lexus and its suppliers in the region. Production is suspended in Japan from 14 to 16 March inclusive, so that employees may contribute to the relief efforts.
Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation, issued this message today:
To All Those Affected by the Tohoku Earthquake
‘I offer my prayers to all those who lost their lives in the March 11 Tohoku Earthquake and its ensuing aftermath, as well as my sympathy to the survivors and their families.
Not only is the struck region one of our production bases, those directly hit and vastly affected include our dealers, suppliers and numerous other partners.
With life the number-one priority, we want to do all we can to contribute to the relief efforts.
Determined to provide hope for not only those suffering and forced to undergo extreme hardships, but also for the region overall, we will do our utmost toward the realization of recovery.’
Akio Toyoda, President, Toyota Motor Corporation
Lexus is in the process of assessing the impact on its operations in Japan. In the meantime, Toyota Motor Corporation is moving to donate 300 million yen (about £2.3 million) for relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the Tohoku Earthquake.
