Lexus RC F pips BMW M4 in Autocar video

Can the large, naturally aspirated V8 engine in the Lexus RC F match the twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder powerplant of BMW’s M4? That was the question Autocar’s Matt Prior posed in the magazine’s head-to-head video.

What makes the Lexus RC F stand-out amongst the competition is its hand-assembled 5.0-litre, 471bhp V8 engine. That helps it take just 4.5 seconds to travel from zero to 62mph, and it has a top speed of 168mph. It sounds wonderful and those looks are pretty striking too.

The press has already hailed the RC F. Auto Express called it ‘a beautifully built high performance coupe’, City A.M. said it is ‘a car with character that excels’, while Pistonheads said the RC F is ‘easy to love’.

But in this video, Autocar tested something harder to define – just how much fun is the Lexus RC F.

Take a look at the video to see the outcome.

  1. You don’t have to convince me how brilliant this car is and I would have one if I could afford it, but can you answer these…

How many RCF’s have actually been sold in UK?
How many ISF owners have been persuaded to sell their brilliant salloons to have a coupe? not many I’ll bet ‘cos I don’t see many ISF’s coming on the market, (so I can have one).

    1. Hello Bob
Thanks for your post and we do appreciate your comments about the new RC F.
In terms of sales volume we are looking at a figure of only 200 cars a year for the UK market (might be slightly less this year as deliveries start February/March). This is also the volume plan for 2016. They will certainly remain a rare sight on UK roads. Interesting point about current IS F owners and we do certainly expect some interest from them. They will of course be moving from a 4-door car to a coupe however if they do require 4 doors and more space then we launch a GS F model later in the year! As you know IS F’s are also a rare sight on our roads but it is always worth checking out the vehicle locator on the website for dealer approved cars on the market. Hope this helps.

      1. No problem Bob.
Let us know if you have any other questions. Glad you like the RC F, we hope to be posting some video footage fairly soon.
