Lexus IS – first pictures and details

It’s official! The first pictures of the all-new Lexus IS have finally been revealed. Our images offer the first look at the stunning new saloon, ahead of its debut at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show on January 15th.

On sale this summer, the car has a bold new exterior design inspired by the acclaimed LF-CC concept car. The concept’s imposing spindle grille and  L-shaped Daytime Running Lights (DRL) are carried through to production – and that’s not all.

Viewed in profile, the IS production car keeps the LF-CC’s pronounced character line that rises from the lower body into the rear lamp clusters, creating a sense of elegance and drama.

On the inside, a major focus has been placed on creating an ideal environment for the driver, with ideal ergonomics and a clean but sophisticated design theme.

Cabin material, trim and finish refinement are complimented by Lexus firsts such as electrostatic switches to control the air conditioning temperature with the touch of a finger.

The IS also features design elements also seen in the Lexus LFA supercar, such as the innovative moving driver’s dial on the instrument panel, which is available on top specification F Sport models.

The newly designed driver’s seat offers greater comfort and better side support. Both the seat hip point and the angle of the steering wheel have been lowered and steering reach adjustment increased, creating a more sporting driving position.

The increased width and wheelbase length of New IS provide significantly increased levels of rear seat comfort and luggage capacity. Accessibility has been improved and rear-seat knee room is now best in class. The IS also features new 60:40 split/folding seats.

At launch, a new F Sport model will also be introduced.

F Sport models are instantly recognised by an exclusive grille and front bumper design. The ‘waistline’ of the grille is higher than on standard models, increasing the area of the lower grille to make it capable of drawing in a larger volume of cooling air appropriate to a sportier performance.

The IS F Sport also features an exclusive, highly supportive seat design using an ‘integrated foaming’ construction method, ensuring that there are no gaps between seat upholstery and filling to combine excellent comfort with outstanding lateral holding performance.

F Sport models also inherit the innovative driver’s meter with moving centre ring from the LFA.

  1. I was going to say that Lexus have got no balls to make this LF-CC concept and then I saw these pictures of real car and my God this is some thing we were begging Lexus to do this for a long time. Excelent work love it I will rob a bank for this Lol.

  2. Looks wonderful – the design team have really hit the nail on the head with this one, I can see it appealing to both the young market and those who want to show off a tad.

    The question of how it drives still lingers however – this will be the make or break for it.

  3. Grille / whole front looks lovely – all that time and effort styling a car that is going to be completely ruined with a UK number plate slapped in the middle !

  4. Great looking car, and I will buy one, a hybrid version, for sure, but please offer an option to hide or replace the cupholders. They don’t look very “premium” to me.

  5. A Lexus on the outside, but a Toyota inside .I hate to say how disappointed I am with this car. The outside is really only a slight face lift of the previous model with a big grill. I have just had one as a courtesy car and while the outside looks good, the inside has really gone down compared to the previous model IS which I use to own.

    Low grade plastic in the center console and the panel around the door switches, and firm cloth seats. What happen to those lovely heated and cooled leather seats that were on the previous model, and it wasn’t just the top of the range models then that had leather . Yes its has lots of technology, but this is low cost nowadays, Bring back the comfy seats, and quality plastics.

    What’s the idea of the retro clock in the middle that looks like it came from an old Morris Oxford? With all the high tech it looks so out of place, and as you sit at an angle to it you can only tell the time give or take a few minutes, The dash just looks a dogs dinner with buttons all over the place,you could be in any VW or Audi, who incidentally set there dash out much better.

    Performance, what performance! Even in sport mode of the new hybrid is not very exciting and that is being kind. The old petrol 2.5 V6 car was far more responsive and exciting to drive.

    Sorry Lexus with no leather and poor quality materials this is a not a luxury car, I’d put a Toyota badge on it and call it the new Yaris! My advice to anyone looking for a nice IS, is to buy one from the top of the range of the previous model. It will cost a lot less than a new one, and you’ll find it a much much nicer car
