Lexus ES 300h: significantly revised for 2022

Lexus ES 300h

The Lexus ES 300h luxury mid-size saloon has been revised for 2022 with the introduction of new handling, styling, safety and specification features, reinforcing its performance and appeal. The new ES is on sale now with a line-up that continues to include generously specified models at on-the-road prices below the £40,000 threshold for luxury car tax rates.

Lexus ES 300h: exterior and chassis changes for 2022

The new ES retains its familiar elegant lines, with exterior changes focusing on the front end, where the spindle grille has a new look with fewer vertical bars and the introduction of new L-shaped motifs (the dedicated grille design for the F Sport model is unchanged). Slimmer LED headlights are introduced for both the single-eye units with automatic high beam activation and new three-eye units (see below) with the BladeScan Adaptive High-beam System.

The Lexus ES 300h was the first model in the UK to offer Digital Side View Monitors in place of conventional door mirrors. Available as an option on the Takumi grade, these have now been revised to ensure clearer images are shown in poor light conditions to offer improved definition between light and shade.

New alloy wheel designs feature across the board, while behind these changes have been applied to the suspension to deliver better dynamic performance, responsiveness and ride comfort. Braces in the rear trailing wishbone system now have higher rigidity and greater torsional strength thanks to a new dual-sheet structure, resulting in linear response that is more closely aligned with the driver’s intentions, such as when making high-speed motorway lane changes.

The adaptive suspension featured on F Sport models benefits from a new actuator and changes to the internals that together expand the range of damping force, improving the car’s response, stability and ride comfort, with more linear steering and suspension feel.

Interior and safety changes for 2022

Related to the chassis improvements, the level of detail invested in achieving the best overall results in the Lexus ES 300h extends to changing the shape of the brake pedal pad to create a larger, more controllable contact area for the driver’s foot. Steps have been taken to reduce any vibrations felt when the pedal is depressed, while the control parameters of the electronic braking system have also been revised.

In the cabin there are new Dark Brown and Sumi Black walnut trim insert options and a Forest Brown upholstery choice, available across the Tahara man-made leather, smooth leather and semi-aniline leather options. For the Lexus ES 300h F Sport, there is a new White Tahara option (see above) with contrasting black sections across the bolsters, seatback and squab.

The ES’s multimedia system has been upgraded with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen, which now allows direct touch operation as well as via the Remote Touch Interface track pad or voice control. All models equipped with Lexus Navigation now feature the new touchscreen.

Now standard across the entire range, however, is the latest Lexus Safety System+ which benefits from new and improved functions. Its radar and camera sensors can now detect pedestrians, cyclists and traffic approaching from the side. Extra assistance is also now provided through the steering when the system detects a sudden safety manoeuvre, while simultaneously keeping the car stable and in its traffic lane. Similarly, in normal driving conditions, artificial intelligence technologies have been applied to improve lane discipline and manage cornering speed when using the vehicle’s dynamic cruise control system.

  1. Does the ES300H as it is front wheel drive come with a spare wheel or just that useless repair kit I have had to risk driving with on my last three IS300Hs. Just yes or no , I have heard all the excuses before.

  2. What happened to my post?

Is the Truth not in keeping with your business ethics?

Not to worry. I will raise my concern through the national motoring press instead!

    1. Hello Robin,
As stated in our reply to your last comment, we would recommend discussing obtaining your handbooks with your Lexus Centre.
They will be best placed to provide a solution for this situation.

  3. I am about to order an ES300h 2022 model year. Is it all possible to delete the rear spoiler? I don’t understand why the spoiler is not an optional extra. The ES in the US and in Japan can be specified without it. I much prefer the look without the spoiler.

    1. Hello David,
      Thank you for contacting Lexus.
Unfortunately, there is no way to order an ES 300h without rear spoiler from the factory.

  4. Hi Lexus,
Looking forward to buy Lexus ES over BMW 5 Series and Merc E – class
I have a couple of questions
    1. what is the difference between F-sport + Takumi Pack and Takumi Variant ?
    2. why Takumi edition doesn’t have Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) as its a top-end variant ?

    1. Hello Raju,
      Thank you for contacting Lexus.
The F SPORT with Takumi Pack comes with Adaptive High Beam System (AHS) with Bladescan, a Card Key, Electric sun shade for rear screen, Sequential indicators, Hands-free power back door with kick sensor, 17-speaker Mark Levinson® Premium Surround Sound System, 12.3″ touchscreen display with Remote Touch Interface, 360° Panoramic View Monitor with Pedestrian Alert, Wireless smartphone charger, HUD (Head-Up Display) with colour.
Furthermore, the Takumi Pack comes with a Heated F SPORT leather steering wheel which is not available on the Takumi Grade.
As for why the Takumi Grade doesn’t come with AVS, this is because the F SPORT has slightly different sporty options available.
However, we understand that this might be of inconvenience, so we will pass this feedback onto our Wider Product Team.

      1. Thanks very much for information

Any features update on es300h 2022 model comparative with previous model 2021 (takumi model) ?

        1. Hello Rama,
This article goes into more detail about the Model Year 2022 ES 300h changes.
The Digital Side View Monitors are available as an option on the Takumi grade.
These have now been revised to ensure clearer images are shown in poor light conditions to offer improved definition between light and shade.

  5. Is it better to buy a Sport with Takumi pack and get the better handling etc or to buy the Takumi model? What are the key differences?

    1. Hello David,
      Thank you for contacting Lexus.
This really depends on your personal preferences.
We would recommend test driving both vehicles at your local Lexus Centre to get a feel for the key differences.
Alternatively, you can read about the key differences on our price list.

  6. I would like to replace my GS300h with a new ES model. However, the one feature I would really like is 4WD, available with the 4 matic versions of there E class MB and x-drive 5 series BMW. Is there likely to be an ES plug-in along the lines of the new NX450h with an electric motor on the rear to achieve 4wd??

    1. Hello Julien,
Thanks for your comment. We hope your GS 300h is serving you well.
We currently have no information on a ES plug-in.
Please keep an eye on our blog and social media channels for the latest information on our vehicle offerings.

  7. I have just purchased a 2022 model ES300h f sport. I also added the tech and safety pack to the purchase which includes sequential front indicators. On collecting the vehicle it does not have sequential indicators ( which are part of the pack I paid for). My dealer made enquires and informed me Lexus no longer fit them !!!!! Why have I paid for something I did not get ? On the configure your Lexus on the Lexus site as of todays date 31/03/22 it still states they are included in that pack. This is my 9th Lexus since the year 2000. Never had a issue before with any model….False advertising !!!!
